Description

Meeting Resistance to Nutrition Education with Resilience: How to Stretch Your Clients Mindset without Snapping
Kathy Parry, Owner and Founder, Wellness Road Trip/Kathy Parry, LLC

*All attendees are welcome to attend*

Daily, nutrition educators try to stretch clients towards healthier eating, yet often they are met with resistance. The challenge of changing behaviors can feel overwhelming. Learning to stretch instead of snapping in the face of challenging circumstances will be the focus of this session. In this powerful keynote, Kathy Parry will share a three-step method to help educators not only become more resilient in their practice, but also show how to develop change-friendly mindsets in their clients. While sharing her 3-R method for resilient behaviors (React, Reframe, Re-energize), Ms. Parry will engage the audience using questions and interactive exercises. First, while discussing "Reactions", the audience will be asked to share the types of reactions they typically hear from clients and how they respond. Then while learning the best practices for "Reframing", individuals will discover methods to help clients think about nutrition differently. And finally, audience participants will learn to “Re-energize” while Kathy uses their responses in an improvisational exercise. Participants will leave the session with the toolkit needed to not only help clients stretch but also learn the best practices to stay resilient in their practices.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the different reactions to change and how to use them to develop a positive outcome for clients
  • Increase awareness of growth mindset to keep clients engaged and participating in programs
  • Learn to escalate both personal and organizational energy levels to stay positive when adverse reactions from change occur
