Freeman A. Hrabowski, III
Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, has served as President of UMBC (The University of Maryland, Baltimore County) since 1992. His research and publications focus on science and math education, with special emphasis on minority participation and performance. He chaired the National Academies’ committee that produced the recent report, Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation: America’s Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads. He also was recently named by President Obama to chair the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.

Dr. Daryl Michael Scott
Dr. Daryl Michael Scott was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, coming of age during the Civil Rights and Black Power era. He attended Catholic schools until he volunteered for the military, serving during the peaceful years of Jimmy Carter’s presidency when the wars were cold rather than hot. With the GI Bill in hand, he attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he received his doctorate in history in 1994. He began my teaching career at Columbia University in New York City, and left there in 2000 to serve as Director of African American Studies at the University of Florida at Gainesville.

Ms. A'Lelia Bundles
A’Lelia Bundles is president of the Madam Walker/A’Lelia Walker Family Archives and author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, the award-winning, New York Times bestselling biography of her great-great-grandmother. After a 30-year career as an executive and Emmy award winning producer with NBC News and ABC News, she currently devotes her time to writing and serving on nonprofit boards. She is president and chair of the board of the Foundation for the National Archives and a trustee of Columbia University.
