2019 Elections
An election for At-Large Director will be held following the conference and all NAPSA members can participate.  Incumbent Janice Dean, Pretrial Director for Allegheny County, PA will face off against Doug Erler, Pretrial Director for Weld County, CO.  In other election news, only one candidate was nominated for President Elect (Spurgeon Kennedy, current NAPSA Vice President) and one candidate for Northeast Region Director (incumbent Shawn LaGrega from Maine Pretrial Services).  No nominations were received for the vacant Atlantic Region Director.  That seat will be filled by the NAPSA Board of Directors when the new term begins January, 2020.

NEW Publication: Using Front End Interventions to Achieve Public Safety and Healthy Communities
The symposium highlighted promising law enforcement, prosecutorial, and judicial interventions at the pretrial stage and promoted dialogue among justice practitioners on how front-end interventions could fit within an evidence-based, harm reduction-focused criminal justice framework. As illustrated above, participants at the symposium learned about and considered various alternative approaches to increasing public safety and addressing health issues facing their communities. They also shared their experiences with—and perspectives on—implementing front-end interventions in their own jurisdictions. Publication now available here.

New PSA Website
The Laura and John Arnold Foundation (LJAF) announced the launch of the first Public Safety Assessment (PSA) website, www.psapretrial.org, which offers interested jurisdictions a robust array of resources to support implementation of the PSA. The resources have been carefully developed in partnership with technical assistance providers, current PSA jurisdiction leaders, and other valued stakeholders.
Certification Testing
The NAPSA Board of Directors and Education Committee are pleased to announce on-demand testing for its Certified Pretrial Services Professionals (CPSP) certification exam. The twice-yearly exam is being replaced with a new on-line testing platform that allows pretrial professionals to take the exam throughout the year to better meet their individual schedules.  Interested persons need to complete necessary forms and make payment to NAPSA. Once approved, practitioners will be provided a link to the testing platform to complete the exam. For more information click here.
