SEFLIN offers new Breakthrough Digitization Awards

Does your institution need some help finishing a digitization project? SEFLIN is now requesting proposals for the "Breakthrough Digitization Award" program. Breakthrough awards are intended to support library digitization efforts that have run into roadblocks due to financial shortfall. The purpose of these awards is to provide the necessary resources to get a project to the next level, or ensure the success of projects just shy of completion. Awards will support projects that aim to create and share significant local digital content. Creativity in proposed projects is welcome, and applicants are encouraged to propose novel solutions to their unique situations.

Please download the RFP here for more information. First round applications are due March 1st, 2017.

Saying farewell to MDPLS Director, Ms. Gia Arbogast

MDPLS Director Gia Arbogast

After more than 30 years with the Miami-Dade Public Library System, Director Gia Arbogast will retire effective February 17, 2017. As director, Ms. Arbogast has introduced a slew of successful and innovative services at MDPLS, including the YOUmake and YOUmedia Miami hands-on learning centers, the MDPLS Technobus mobile library computer training lab, and the Writer In Residence Program for young adults. In addition, Director Arbogast has oversaw the opening of the milestone 50th MDPLS branch, and heartily strenghtened MDPLS's profile in the community and the connection between library customers and MDPLS services.

SEFLIN staff would like to thank Ms. Arbogast for her hard work and dedication as well as her guidance and service as a SEFLIN Board and committee member. We wish her well in her future endeavors.

FLA Award Nominations now open

It's that time again! Nominate yourself, a colleague, or your library for an FLA Award!

The Florida Library Association honors outstanding libraries, individuals, businesses, and library supporters during its annual conference. This year, at the request of the FLA Board, the Awards Committee created rubrics for each award. While the committee will use the rubrics to decide on a winner for each award, the rubrics also provide information to nominees on exactly what the committee is looking for. Nominees are also encouraged to provide supporting documentation with their award nominations; documentation can include letters of support, newspaper articles, flyers, etc.

Visit http://www.flalib.org/fla-awards-descriptions to learn more! The deadline for submitting the online award nomination form and emailing all supporting documentation is March 13, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. Awards will be presented at the 2017 FLA Conference in Orlando

Email Regina Burgess at rburgess@plan.lib.fl.us or flaawards@gmail.com if you have any questions.
