In today’s health care market, quality is receiving considerable attention both as a goal unto itself, and as a key component of Value-Based Purchasing (VBP).
To support the growing focus on quality measures in health care, there is a need for improving the precision and completeness of data used in analyses. Complete and accurately coded data is essential and clinical documentation is the cornerstone of accurate coding. All aspects of patients’ conditions, treatments and outcomes have to be fully documented and accurately and completely coded.
This session will offer insights on:
- the importance of clinical documentation in quality measures when looking at "Observed-to-Expected" rates
- the impact that the quality of coding has on apparent CDI program performance and on quality measures
- the importance of all aspects of documentation, not just those that directly impact reimbursement
BENEFITS OF ATTENDANCE:
Participants will learn:
- how physician queries can impact quality measures, even if the answer would not impact reimbursement
- the activities related to providing the best environment and data for quality measures
- characteristics of and uses for "Key Performance Indicators"
- common metrics to assess and improve their CDI program
- the true "baseline" condition of the chart (not dependent on the review) to compute the actual impact of the CDI process on an admission
