This webinar will provide practical strategies to enable health information (HI) teams to be successful in compliantly implementing all components of the 21st Century Cures Act. There are many aspects of the new rules and regulations that involve and/or impact HI and/or require HI expertise. Although there have been many overviews of the act, this session will provide HI professionals with best practice guidance to determine the relevant items that need to be addressed prior to the updated compliance date in April of 2021. Be sure to be prepared to lead the health information department’s readiness for this significant legislation and drive the needed changes.
- Gain familiarity with the key elements of the 21st Century Cures Act to identify the activities, workflows, policies and EMR design elements that need to be reviewed for compliance
- Determine what electronic information needs to be released without delay to assure compliance with information blocking (USCDI elements)
- Assess the workflows in release of information that need to be addressed
- Evaluate the impact on proxy access relationships
- Prepare best practice strategies for patient portal release

Cassi joined Peace Health’s Senior Enterprise Director team at the end of April, overseeing its HIM, coding and CDI activities. Previsouly she spent five years with the UC San Diego Health, as Enterprise-wide Director of HIM/Revenue Integrity where she provided enterprise-wide leadership and strategic direction for all activities related to HIM, coding, clinical documentation, and revenue integrity for the UC San Diego Healthcare system. She is also a faculty member for both UCSD Extension and San Diego Mesa College Health Information Management academic programs
