'<a href="/consultation/elearning.htm"><img src="/images/ceu.jpg" align="left" vspace=0 hspace=4 border=0 ALT="E-Learning Courses"></a>Imagine that you are a 14-year-old living in a group home. One evening, you

are picked up by the police for getting into a fight, and they charge you

with assault. You are scheduled to appear in court for adjudication. You are

weighed down with questions: Will anyone speak on your behalf? Will your

caseworker be at the hearing? How will the judge view you? Where will you go

from there? Whom do you turn to with questions? Little is known about what

occurs when youth in foster care are arrested and brought before the court.

This book uses extensive interviews to illustrate the viewpoints of foster

youth who are involved with the juvenile justice system, their foster

parents, juvenile court judges, and child welfare agencies, concerning their

role when children face delinquency charges. The book then identifies

innovative programs that address issues affecting children and youth in the

overlap of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. It also examines

the extent to which law, policy, and practice support appropriate outcomes for young people in foster care with subsequent involvement in delinquency.
