Description:
The discovery of materials with the shape memory effect (SME), so-called shape memory materials (SMMs), has opened up an exciting field and made a significant breakthrough in the development of materials for a variety of engineering applications. It has also in many aspects influenced the way that products are designed.
Shape memory polymer (SMP) is undergoing rapid growth and becoming a leading member of the fantastic world of SMMs. Given its advantages over other SMMs, in particular its low cost and high versatility, SMP is more accessible and more flexible, with greater potential for numerous applications, from deployable structures in outer space to medical implants such as stents and sutures.
This webinar presents the history, current status and future direction of SMPs. It is suitable both for those who are new to this subject as an introduction and for those already in this field who wish to know more technical details, recent development, and/or potentials, in particular, in terms of applications.
Topics that will be covered are:
- Background of SMPs
- Phenomena and mechanisms
- SMP composites
- Commercially available SMPs
- Medical and nonmedical applications
