Webinar on Demand: IG Web Series Part 4: Strategic Alignment – Linking & Managing IG
CHIA Product Code: WEBIG4
Webinar Date: July 27,2018
The 2017-2018 CHIA Information Governance Committee is pleased to announce the Information Governance (IG) Web Series. This seven-part series will provide a foundation of valuable IG topics to HIM professionals. Utilizing AHIMA’s IG Training Kit, these informational webinars will increase your knowledge of IG.
AHIMA defines IG as “an organization wide framework for managing information throughout its lifecycle and for supporting the organization’s strategy, operations, regulatory, legal, risk, and environmental requirements.” Like other critical organizational assets—people, capital, inventory, etc.—information is a strategic asset that requires high level oversight to be able to effectively use it for organizational decision-making, performance improvement, cost management, and risk mitigation. Complementary to the traditional approach and practices of HIM, which is bottom up, IG ensures that information is trustworthy and actionable through alignment with organizational strategy and engagement of senior leaders and important stakeholders across the enterprise.
In an increasingly connected world, this extends outside the proverbial four walls of an organization to make sure that information is available in the right place and the right time to support health and health care. This IG Web Series aims to prepare HIM professionals to meet the growing demand.
Part 4 – Strategic Alignment – Linking & Managing IG
As you begin thinking about IG, a key question is: “How do you sell this to your organization when you already have so much on your plate?” Competing priorities, limited resources, and organizational culture are challenges that all organizations face as they start any major initiative—whether it is IG or something else.
However, because IG in and of itself is strategic, it can and does help with sorting out competing priorities by aligning information needs and management with the larger organizational business strategy. The objectives for this session will review:
- Define strategic alignment in the context of IG
- Understand the role of culture in IG
- Describe how to link business strategy to IG
- Discuss the importance of scope/scale in starting IG
- Develop supporting tactics for executing on strategy
