In 2000, NASARs SAR Dog Section organized the development of a training workbook, with the first revision in August 2005. This
workbook is designed to benefit the canine community by helping them
prepare for the required written test associated with the NASAR Canine SARTECH program. It is designed as an entry-level course of instruction and introduces the fundamentals of canine handling. Topics include: Canine
obedience, health, agility and fitness; expectations of a working
canine; canine first-aid; handler responsibilities; legal aspects of
training and search work; scent theory; alerts and refinds; rappelling
with a canine; and many others. The revised 2005 edition provides clear
text, pertinent illustrations and study questions.
