In this workshop, the presenters will introduce an interdisciplinary approach for assessing individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental illness. Establishing operations are conditions that change the likelihood of problem behavior by altering the reinforcing and punishing value of consequences in an individual’s environment. Participants will learn 1) how the process of functional assessment can be used to identify establishing operations, 2) how functional assessment data can be used to clarify issues of diagnosis and 3) how to design effective interventions and supports.
