Modifiers are an integral part of AMA CPT®. They are needed when a service sometimes needs further description on a claim, telling a payer additional information about the service which is not adequately conveyed with just the 5-digit CPT® code. The modifier may be needed to increase the payment, decrease the payment, get a claim paid when it would not be paid otherwise or just convey information to the third-party payer which will assist them in processing the claim.

Proper use of modifiers will enable a medical practice to compliantly optimize their revenue, getting paid appropriately for the services provided to patients. Improper use of modifiers not only risks revenue leaks, leaving money on the table, but also severe compliance violations for the practice and perhaps also the billing company.

This 2-hour revenue will explore the major modifiers practices encounter with discussion of how the modifiers should be used, using examples of proper application in real life examples. While CPT® Modifiers will all be reviewed, focus will be on Modifiers 25, 59, X[ESPU] and Global Package Modifiers.
