This e-course with Alicia Clair includes detailed descriptions of behavior issues, theoretical framework, and operating principles for music therapy interventions, as well as step-by-step details about music therapy protocols to facilitate predictable outcomes when addressing problem behaviors resulting from dementia.

Participants listen to the audio discussion at their leisure. If they choose to earn 5 CMTE credits from AMTA, a CBMT Approved Provider, participants simply need to submit a CMTE Evaluation after listening to the audio. Includes 5 CMTE credits for music therapy professionals. AMTA is a pre-approved provider (#P-051) with CBMT and maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria. E-course publish date: January 2013.

Learning Objectives: 

1. E-course participants will learn techniques for effectively observing the individual with dementia in music and non-music setting and to otherwise obtain information necessary for developing effective music therapy protocols. (2015 CBMT Board Certification Domains I. B. 1, 2, 3, 4.)  2. E-course participants will learn techniques for identifying the individual’s musical preferences as well as their responses to different styles of music and different musical elements. (2015 CBMT Board Certification Domains: I. B. 13, a, b, c, d.)  3. E-course participants will learn protocols for developing a therapeutic relationship with individuals with dementia and for providing music therapy experiences to address the individual’s needs. (2015 CBMT Board Certification Domains: II. A. 1, 2.)  4. E-course participants will learn protocols for using music to achieve therapeutic goals. (2015 CBMT Board Certification Domains: II. A. 5.)

Once you purchase this item, you must download the e-course workbook with instructions and links for listening to or watching the course. Go to the AMTA website and log in on the left side using the QuickLink, “My Account>Login.”  After logging into your AMTA online account with your primary email and password, go to the top tab “My Transactions,” and the “My Downloadable Products” link, then click on the item to open it. Save to your local computer.  This purchase will remain available in your account for one year from the purchase date.

Note: The cost of each e-course purchase entitles one individual to participate in and complete the e-course for CMTE credit. If a course is being purchased for multiple individuals, it must be purchased separately for each participant. Please email the national office if you are purchasing a course for someone other than yourself so credit can be applied to that person's record.
