Participants in this AMTA E-course Advocacy for More Music Therapy will learn details about advocacy for music therapy on the federal level and about the State Recognition Operational Plan for Music Therapy. Participants will learn specific concepts and skills necessary to be an effective advocate in their daily work as well as in state or federal advocacy projects, all of which are focused on promoting increased access to music therapy services provided by a board certified music therapist. Learning Objectives

  • Objective 1. The learner will listen to the audio segments of Units 1 and 2 of the AMTA Advocacy e-course and will write an advocacy story about a significant music therapy event.  (CBMT 2020 Board Certification Domain III.A.5.w.)
  • Objective 2. The learner will listen to the audio segments of Units 3 and 4 of the AMTA Advocacy e-course and will write a summary about the federal senators and representatives who represent their home state and district. (CBMT 2020 Board Certification Domain V.B.3, 9, 18.)
  • Objective 3. The learner will listen to the audio segment of Unit 5 of the AMTA Advocacy e-course and (1) will write a summary about the state legislators who represent their state and district, and will (2) write a description of their state's Music Therapy Task force, including the contact information. (CBMT 2020 Board Certification Domain V.B. 3, 9, 18.)
  • Objective 4. The learner will listen to the audio segments of Units 6 and 7 of the AMTA Advocacy e-course and will write a summary of the 5 steps critical for effective advocacy leading to improving access to quality music therapy services provided by a qualified professional. (CBMT 2020 Board Certification Domains V.B. 14, 16, 17, 18.)

Once you purchase this item, you must download the e-course workbook with instructions and links for listening to or watching the course. Go to the AMTA website and log in on the left side using the QuickLink, “My Account>Login.”  After logging into your AMTA online account with your primary email and password, go to the top tab “My Transactions,” and the “My Downloadable Products” link, then click on the item to open it. Save to your local computer.  This purchase will remain available in your account for one year from the purchase date.

Note: The cost of each e-course purchase entitles one individual to participate in and complete the e-course for CMTE credit. If a course is being purchased for multiple individuals, it must be purchased separately for each participant. Please email the national office if you are purchasing a course for someone other than yourself so credit can be applied to that person's record.
