About the Authors

David S. Seres, MD, ScM, PNS, FASPEN is board certified in internal medicine with expertise in preventive medicine.  Dr. Seres has been a physician nutrition specialist for 25 years. He is director of medical nutrition and an associate professor of medicine in the Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University Medical Center (New York, NY).  He directs the nutrition support service, the medical school nutrition curriculum, and one of the few clinical nutrition fellowships for physicians in the U.S. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Excellence in Nutrition Education Award from the American Society for Nutrition. Dr. Seres is also a clinical ethicist. 

Charles WVan Way III, MD, FASPEN Dr. Van Way is Emeritus Professor of Surgery at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine, and served as director of the UMKC Shock Trauma Research Center. He also chaired the Department of Surgery (2000-2008). He is Past President of ASPEN, the Missouri State Medical Association, and the Metropolitan Medical Association of Greater Kansas City.
