This presentation will explore hospital revenue recovery in two areas that many hospitals have addressed, but where opportunities still exist. Hospital providers receive reduced reimbursement for claims impacted by the Medicare Post-Acute Transfer Rule; for some providers this could mean millions annually. Discharge status and the appropriate use of certain condition codes are the drivers for proper reimbursement. Periodic retrospective reviews of all claims impacted by the transfer rule ensures the proper discharge status and condition codes have been used. Providers can typically expect ten to fifteen percent in recoveries when conducting this type of review.
Participants will learn:
• The history and financial implications of the post-acute transfer (PACT) rule
• Compliant methods to recover Medicare TDRG underpayments
• Discharge status scenarios
• Vendor checklist to ensure compliance
• How Indirect Medical Education (IME) payments are missed
• Internal Process Improvement Opportunities
