This book is designed for the novice just starting their training and field experience along with those who have ample experience in the communications and electronics fields. This guide is also for those who want to learn new technology, as there is a constant advancement in communications and electronics. The textbook may serve as a refresher course for others.
This book can be used as a study guide for the Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I) General Communications Technician (GCT) certification tests Levels 1 and 2. Each level beyond level 1 will build on the previous level of knowledge. The intent is to provide the electronics industries with competent technicians and engineers who are very effective in their jobs. There is some level 1 material that is repeated here to provide continuity from the basic information to the more advanced subjects covered in level 2.
The General Communications Technician Level 2 (GCT2) is the intermediate level in the series. The GCT2 technician performs technical work in the installation, removal, maintenance, modification, testing, and repair of electronic communication systems and related equipment and accessories, including mobile and stationary equipment (e.g., systems, advanced vehicle and portable units, and other more complex systems). A GCT2 will usually work independently under loose supervision of the shop manager or engineer, and diagnose problems and perform repairs on more complex communications systems and equipment. The GT2 will know how to use all of the test equipment at their disposal.
Know what to expect on the GCT level 2 exam by reviewing the GCT Level 2 competency listing. If you are studying solo, this is an excellent starting point. Additional suggested study materials and resources are also provided on the competency listing.
