Normal and Pathological Anxiety in Intellectual Disabilities
Alya Reeve, MD, FANPA, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Albuquerque, NM
Since anxiety responses are necessary for survival, this presentation reviews situations and manifestations of anxiety that are expected or “normal” and contrasts them with examples from clinical material of pathological anxiety states and disorders. Dr. Reeve’s presentation involves examples that highlight differences between anxiety disorders, allowing for comparison across diagnoses as well as treatment approaches.
