For historical reasons, persons with a dual diagnosis have been among the most under-served individuals in New Jersey's mental health field. Recently, increasing attention has been focused on developing accessible treatment alternatives for psychiatrically ill and developmentally disabled consumers. The purpose of this workshop will be to: provide an outline to explore historical barriers to treatment and innovative methods of facilitating the development of new services; assist workshop participants in expanding access to the mental health continuum of care (including such programs as psychiatric screening centers, inpatient units, partial hospital programs and outpatient centers); and familiarize workshop participants with new treatment alternatives available within New Jersey (reviewing programs such as Integrated Therapeutic Networks and the Statewide Consultation and Training Program funded by the Division of Mental Health Services).
