For at least a decade, NADD members have been working to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion in residential facilities. Now, it is time to expand these efforts to protect students and staff in our nation’s schools. The speakers will discuss how these practices harm both students and teachers and why state and federal laws are needed. They will also lead an interactive discussion about how professionals, providers, advocates, families, and individuals with intellectual disabilities can work together to reduce − and eventually eliminate − restraint and seclusion in schools.
