SY97-653C-Comorbidity in Tourette's Syn: Pharm Treatment in Adults with a Severe-Profound Handicap
Bob King, M.D., Consultant Psychiatrist - Developmental Disabilities Program - North Bay Psychiatric Hospital, North Bay, Ontario, Canada
The diagnosis and treatment of Tourette's Syndrome, a neurochemical disorder with significant psychiatric comorbidity remains challenging in adults with a severe to profound handicap. This presentation, using a case prevention format with videotape accompaniment, highlights a rationale approach to the pharmacological treatment of the continuum which exists between simple motor tics, complex motor tics, compulsive and self injurous behavior. Case studies are drawn from a Canadian outreach psychiatric consultative program based on an interdisciplinary collaborative model of care.
