Every day, there is more in the news about “sequestration” and the “fiscal cliff.” Though an arcane federal budgeting term, sequestration can and will have a major impact on federal funding for public safety programs. Across the board, sequestration will cut 8.2 percent from nearly every federal program beginning on January 2, 2013, and cuts of similar magnitude will occur every year through Fiscal Year 2021 - unless Congress changes current law.

Hear from experts about sequestration – what it is; what it means for your federal justice assistance funding for public safety and law enforcement; what Congress may do to avoid the “fiscal cliff;” and, what policymakers in DC need to know about how these future cuts will impact your work. This special presentation, offered right after the election, offered insights into White House and congressional strategy on sequestration and the timing for completing the annual appropriations bills.

The presenters for this webinar were Shai Akabas, senior policy analyst with the Bipartisan Policy Center, Kathryn Schubert, vice president with Cavarocchi Ruscio Dennis Associates, Elizabeth Pyke, NCJA’s director of government affairs, and Christine Leonard, director of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Washington, DC office.
