Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Homework Help and Tutoring Program
Regional Conference.
July 30, 2020

Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Homework Help and Tutoring program promotes literacy and learning by providing certified teachers who meet with small groups of students in one-hour sessions to provide free homework help and tutoring in reading, math, and science. In its first 18 months of operation, the program has provided 40,432 tutoring sessions to students from some of the highest need areas in Miami-Dade County. Feedback from parent surveys indicates that 93% of parents strongly agree that participation in the program has helped to increase the academic grades of their child(ren) in school. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, MDPLS transitioned the Homework Help program from in-person tutoring services to a virtual tutoring program to continue its academic support and to keep students engaged in their education. Session attendees will learn how providing this exemplary service to the community can inspire all children to a lifelong love of learning and support student achievement in a safe and nurturing learning environment.
