Michael E. Horn had a prolific and geographically diverse career in plant cellular genetics. A member of the SIVB from 1987 until his passing, his research focused on the design for growing soybean cells photoautotrophically in culture and then characterizing them physiologically (nitrogen metabolism, lipid content, carbon pathways). His cell line and the unique system design are now used by researchers around the world.
The Michael Horn Endowment Fund Contribution supports the Michael Horn Endowment Fund which was established to raise money to continue the legacy of Dr. Horn and will be used to provide travel assistance to students and Post-Docs that want to attend the SIVB annual meeting and possibly a scholarship fund for an individual interested in studying the in vitro sciences.
