Minnesota NEEDS School Bus Drivers!

Come Join Our Team!  Bus Driving is a great career or sideline job for those that need to supplement their income. There are flexible shifts in the morning or afternoon, even throughout the day and evenings!

Parents: Get paid to drive your kids to school or go on their class trips. Have the same schedule as your children.

Be a Mentor! Working with children is a rewarding experience. You are the first person on the educational team to see students and can help set the tone for kids throughout the day.

School buses today are modern, technology enhanced vehicles.  Almost all buses have automatic transmissions. They have emissions scrubbing technology and run on BioDiesel. They are clean and GREEN! You will be promoting a healthier environment because each school bus removes 36 vehicles from the roads.  Many have GPS and cameras to help keep students safe.  Many companies operate vehicles of all sizes from cars and vans to full size buses.

Becoming a school bus driver is a multi-step process BUT your local contractor will help you and guide you through the process every step of the way!!  Every contractor offers training on site and many offer testing at their location -- no waiting at the DMV!

School Bus Drivers need to:

  • Pass a Federal DOT Physical
  • Pre-Employment Drug Testing and ongoing random tests
  • Pass a Written Test for CDL General Knowledge, Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Hold a CDL Permit for 14 Days
  • Complete Behind the Wheel Training
  • Pass a Road Test and Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection

If you are interested in becoming a school bus driver today, email Shelly Jonas at shellyj@msboa.com.

The MSBOA Board has developed a Fact Sheet on the current driver shortage.

The Minnesota School Bus  Operators Association represents Minnesota's privately owned school bus contractors. We provide over 60% of the school buses used to transport Minnesota children to and from school and school related activities. Our members represent an average of over 45 years experience in the industry and are responsible for over 400,000 students transported 233,000 miles per day.

Why join the MSBOA?

  • It is the mission of the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association to serve and represent the interests of our members with a unified voice; to advance the passenger transportation industry's image, overall safety, efficiency, and reliability;
to develop and distribute educational programs and solutions; to positively influence Federal and State government actions; to advocate ethical operations; to provide a means to establish and maintain relationships with fellow industry professionals; and to strive for a healthy business environment

As of July 1, all CDL Drivers will need proof of citizenship to renew their license. A unexpired passport or certified birth certificate will suffice.  For more options see the DVS website.
