About the Speakers
Shymeka L. Hunter, born and raised in Sylvania, GA, received a Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science (with high honors) from Agnes Scott College. Shymeka then attended and graduated from Duke University School of Law, where she was Notes Editor of the Alaska Law Review.
Since graduating from law school, she has practiced in the litigation and employment law departments at three of Atlanta's most prestigious law firms, including Jackson Lewis where she was one of the first African-American women Partners in the Atlanta Office.
Shymeka is currently Corporate Counsel for one of the largest payment processing companies in the world. She handles both transactional and business litigation matters. She also manages the company's labor and employment law cases.
Shymeka is also co-founder of Hunter Mills Consulting, LLC, a management and professional development consulting firm, specializing in the areas of corporate and leadership training and professional image consulting.
Shymeka was named a "Rising Star" by Atlanta Magazine in 2010. Shymeka is a member of various organizations including the Association of Corporate Counsel and the American Bar Association. She is also a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, where she previously served as Secretary and Co-Chair of the Large Firm section. She participates in the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation's Saturday Lawyers Program and the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta. Shymeka is married and has two children.
Karen V. Mills, born and raised in Macon, GA, received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (with honors) from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Thereafter, she worked as an electrical engineer with Duke Power Company in North Carolina and became a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina. Karen then attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
Upon graduation from law school, she worked in the corporate law department at one of Atlanta's oldest law firms where she was elected the second African-American female partner.
Karen is currently the founding member of the woman-owned boutique law firm, Mills Law Associates, LLC located in Atlanta. She specializes in corporate and business transactions law, contracts law and technology law.
Karen is also co-founder of Hunter Mills Consulting, LLC, a management and professional development consulting firm, specializing in the areas of corporate and leadership training and professional image consulting.
Karen is an alumna of Leadership Atlanta, Class of 2010. She was selected as a member of Who's Who in Black Atlanta in 2009 and named a "Rising Star" by Atlanta Magazine in 2005. An active member of the community, Karen has served on various boards, including the Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Girls' School and Girls' Opportunities for Adventure and Leadership, Inc. She is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, Gate City Bar Association, Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization, Georgia Tech Bar Association and the Business Law, Technology Law and Corporate Counsel sections of the State Bar of Georgia. Karen also currently serves a mentor in the Spelman College/Coca-Cola Mentoring Program. |
