Program Descriptions

"Making Two Years Last a Lifetime"

Last December's new gifting and estate tax legislation turned out to be better than expected, but it's only a temporary two-year extension.  What are the implications of the new tax law, and, most important, how do we quantify the benefits of taking action now during this two-year window?  Should investors wait for the next round of legislation?  We argue for many families, planning done through 2012 could address all of their estate planning needs for the rest of their lives.   We'll explore the implications of both the temporary income tax law and of the temporary estate tax law, and we'll discuss the planning opportunities afforded by current low interest rates, which may well be at an inflection point.

"Retirement: Plan Early and Often"

Given the uncertainties of the capital markets and life's twists and turns, retirees want assurance that they'll be able to negotiate the rough patches-whether measured in stock market downturns, inflationary spikes, or sudden changes in personal circumstances. At the same time, they want to know they're equipped to take advantage of the opportunities that the retirement years can offer.  We'll address a retiree's personal hierarchy of needs and wants and demonstrate how to shape the appropriate retirement  strategy.  We'll discuss lifetime spending, asset allocation, the best use of tax-deferred retirement accounts and more in the context of the volatile planning environment we are living through.
