We will kick off our virtual event with our keynote speaker, a 2018 AAEES Honorary Member, Dr. Rita Rossi Colwell. Dr. Colwell's presentation is entitled: "Climate, Oceans, and Human Health - what Cholera can teach us About COVID-19."
Dr. Colwell is the Distinguished University Professor at University of Maryland College Park and Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health; Global Science Officer and Chairman at CosmosID, Inc.; and Senior Advisor and Chairman Emeritus at Canon U.S. Life Sciences.
Dr. Rita Colwell's interests are focused on global infectious diseases, water, and health, and Dr. Colwell developed an international network to address emerging infectious diseases and water issues, including safe drinking water for both the developed and developing world, in collaboration with Safe Water Network, headquartered in New York City.
Awards
We will be announcing the winning entries in the 2020 Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science (E3S), Environmental Communications (EComm) awards.
In addition, we will be honoring the following outstanding individuals in environmental engineering and environmental science who have made significant contributions to the profession and to the people and communities they serve:
Danny D. Reible, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE
Gordon Maskew Fair Award
|
Wendy A. Wert, P.E., BCEE

|
Also to be announced are the W. Brewster Snow Award, W. Wesley Eckenfelder Graduate Student Research Award, Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science Education Award, and the Paul F. Boulos Excellence in Computational Hydraulics/Hydrology Award.
Superior Achievement Presentation
To close out our event, our Superior Achievement Award winner, Los Angeles County Sanitation District, will be discussing their Tulare Lake Compost Project: Attaining Sustainability in a Nonattainment Area. In this presentation, the project leaders will discuss the engineering challenges -supported by scientific research - that brought the facility to its present operating status. Equally as important is how the project team are planning to move forward to achieve higher throughput while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations that meet both state and Federal mandates.
We hope you can join us!
