CAD/CAM Technologies for Private Practice Esthetics, Implants, and Occlusion
(Event: 65th AAID Annual Conference 2016)

Oct 26, 2016 1:00pm - Oct 29, 2016 1:59pm
Session Type: Main Podium
Track: AGD Subject Code 731

Description

CAD/CAM technology has the advantage of reducing clinical chairtime and reducing laboratory costs. The accuracy of these techniques has improved to the point where they are now comparable to conventional techniques. This presentation will review the current technology which allows the fabrication of anterior and posterior crowns utilizing various digital intra-oral systems. In addition, these techniques can be used to fabricate implant restorations. Utilizing a scan body and temporary abutments without a fixture-level impression allows us to create an ideal design. Digital acquisition impressions of implant and ceramic restorations will be demonstrated. Anterior and posterior restorations using CAD/CAM technologies and impressions will be discussed as well as one-visit protocols. A variety of intra-oral scanners helps plan guided surgeries, utilizes digital wax-up, and finalizes restorations using 100% digital workflow. In addition, working with CBCT scans, analyzing occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) for our patients and transfering that information through to final full-mouth rehabilitation (FMR) are possible. Occlusion principles will be discussed as they relate to new materials and their applications in private practice.

Learning Objectives: At the completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

1. Comprehend the advantages and disadvantages of fabrication of anterior esthetic crowns and veneers

2. Understand the advantages and limitations of CAD/CAM generated and designed abutments

3. Recognize the advantages and limitations of CAD/CAM anterior restorations for implants

4. Craft CAM/CAM crowns for restoring OVD in FMR cases
