Assessing & Managing the Impact of ICD-10 Implementation on Your Clinical and Business Operations

May 7, 2014 – Crowne Plaza – Baton Rouge, LA

Implementing ICD-10 by October 1, 2014 requires more than your coders learning the new diagnosis codes. It has far reaching implications for your technology, your processes and your people. The specificity of the new diagnosis code set will help organizations measure the quality, safety and effectiveness of care and to propel improvements in policy, research, and planning for future healthcare. With those benefits come many operational challenges and business risks. If you are to survive the transition, you must be fully prepared to make the most of the time you have left to implement one of the most significant changes experienced by healthcare organizations.

While every agency and provider is scrambling to train and certify coders for the new requirements, don't forget the many other areas of your operations that will be impacted by ICD-10. Have you:

· Made your entire team aware of what ICD-10 is all about?

· Assessed the impact of ICD-10 on each role, process and system?

· Conducted a technology systems inventory and gap analysis?

· Developed a plan for training and education?

· Prepared a multi-year budget for ICD-10 implementation?

· Set a plan for continued assessment and issues resolution?

· Evaluated the effect on data analysis?

· Assessed clinical documentation implications?

· Reviewed the potential reimbursement and productivity impact during transition?
