The disease of addiction can impact those who are caring for their loved ones in pain. No one wants to think their parents, family members, caregivers, or friends would take medications from those who are suffering in pain especially at the end of life. Unfortunately in the world we live in today, this is happening. This session will share stories of struggles while providing pain management, palliative and end of life care.
The presentation will share a pediatric institution’s quality improvement project on Opioid Risk Screen for Abuse in a pediatric chronic pain clinic and a homebased palliative care and hospice setting. The experts will discuss:
-
Opioid misuse issue statistics in the US and Ohio.
-
Risk factors for opioid misuse in caregivers and how this can impact pain management patients in pain and at the end of life.
-
Implementation of a quality improvement project conducted in a pediatric chronic pain clinic and homebased palliative care and hospice setting.
