Event Description

This course will be taught In the Illinois Statehouse when the legislature is in session. A Senator and a Representative will be scheduled to speak with the participants about the legislative process in a hearing room at the Capital. Presentations by Senate and House Staffers will be scheduled as well as a presentation by a staff member from the Governor’s office. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend legislative hearings. As a result of taking this course, participants will understand and be able to work effectively with legislators and their staff, apply rules for giving testimony at legislative hearings, develop working relationships with the Legislative Reference Bureau and the Legislative Information System, and work with the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.

Due to changes in the Illinois State Board of Education professional development requirements, please be advised that you will be required to sign in to all professional development opportunities, in which credits are offered. Each attendee will also be required to fill out an evaluation summary in order to receive credit.
