This one-day conference is designed specifically for bookkeepers and administrative office staff.  Two tracks are available, but you can pick and choose which sessions you would like to attend throughout the day.

Non-Payroll Track

Ask the Auditors
Ever wonder why your auditors ask you questions about protocols for check disbursement? Or perhaps, why you have to create a new account for a grant? In this session, you will have the ability to ask our distinguished panel of auditors for answers to many different types of questions.

How to Get Away With Preventing Fraud
You walk by your assistant's desk, see a Ziploc bag full of money and think, "This isn't quite right." Then, you receive a call from the PE teacher who collected $150 for gym uniform rentals and doesn't know what to do with the money. Come learn about proper cash handling procedures and hear about some of the horror stories of mishandled cash.

All About Acronyms
Do you know what DSEB, LIPLEP, GASB, FRIS and IDEA all stand for and their relevance to your job? Come to an entertaining session about various business acronyms.

A/P, Imprest and A/R
An overview of how a business office should effectively and efficiently maintain an Imprest Account, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable including monthly reconciliations, reports and audit recordkeeping.

Top Mistakes Made in the Business Office
Do you feel like the same items are always confusing year after year? Wouldn’t it be nice to know what items drive your counterparts crazy? Come explore the most common pitfalls for bookkeepers and how to avoid them.

Technology for the Business Office
Everyone has heard of the Google search engine. Many probably even know Google Docs, Google Sheets or Google Slides. But do you know all of the different ways Google can assist you with other tasks? Come hear how Google can aid you in your daily activities.

Payroll Track

Payroll Basics
This session is designed for those individuals relatively new to a payroll position or who assist in the payroll process. Come learn the important parts of the payroll process, how one decision effects an entire payroll, and how to find answers to those questions you've always wondered. These experts are here to make the payroll process a breeze.

Key Components of TRS
Along with IMRF, TRS is a critical component of a school district's payroll. This session will review the key components of TRS, look at how Adlai E. Stevenson High School handles TRS with their payroll and answer any questions you may have.

IMRF from the Employer Perspective
We know that IMRF is a pension plan, but why do employees have to join? What are the responsibilities of IMRF employers? What are the hottest topics within IMRF? Come meet an IMRF representative and learn everything you wanted to know about IMRF.

FMLA, Disability, Workers Comp
Human Resources and Finance will forever be linked together regardless of who is performing payroll functions in the district office because of disability issues, workers compensation claims, and the Family Medical Leave Act. This session will explore the importance of proper communication between Human Resources and Finance as it relates to these three topics.

Payroll, Month End and Year End Reconciliation
There isn't a better feeling in the world when you get to the last item of a reconciliation and everything matches. Of course, there isn't a more frustrating feeling when it doesn't. How do you perform your reconciliations? Do you have a template? What is different between a payroll reconciliation, month end reconciliation and a year end reconciliation?

FLSA
Do you have hourly employees performing stipend duties such as coaching? Come learn how the US Department of Labor wants you to pay them.
