Event Description

Leadership Expressions

School Administrators can lead more successfully by understanding and interpreting behavior; both theirs and others. This course uses the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B) instrument and theory to assist leaders in understanding interpersonal behavior and why some actions do not elicit expected results; and may elicit unexpected results in work relationships. The instrument was created in the late 1950s by William Schutz, PhD. Schutz developed the FIRO-B theory to aid in the understanding and predicting of how high-performance military teams would work together. This course will help school administrators develop an understanding of behavior and high performance amongst the various teams they interact and work with. By working with the results of the instrument, participants will gain an understanding of their expressed and wanted needs for inclusion (involvement), control (direction), and Affection (Openness). Course facilitators will utilize varied combinations of results and have participants interpret positive and negative interactions therein. After gaining an understanding of the theory, participants will utilize experiential modeling to evaluate and assess their working relationships with one of their co-workers.
