Who Are The People In Our Neighborhoods?

Culturally Sensitive Responses and Impact on Mental Health

The William James College INTERFACE Resource and Referral Service is hosting a panel presentation focusing on the impact of culturally sensitive responses on mental health access and outcomes.  Panel presenters are faculty members at William James College who are experts on the mental health issues facing the following populations: veterans and their families, immigrants/refugees, members of Islamic faith groups, and members of the LGBTQ and Latino/Latina communities.  Panelists will discuss the mental health issues facing these groups, as well as share ideas for how communities can offer support in culturally sensitive ways. Following the presentation there will be time for guided discussion and questions, as well as networking with stakeholders from communities utilizing INTERFACE Referral Service.

Specific learning objectives:

  1. Articulate some of the needs of veterans and their families in regard to social climate and impact on mental health issues, as well as culturally sensitive community responses to these needs.

  2. Discuss some of the needs of immigrants and refugees in regard to social climate and impact on mental health issues, as well as culturally sensitive community responses to these needs.

  3. Explain some of the needs to Islamic faith groups in regard to social climate and impact on mental health issues, as well as culturally sensitive community responses to these needs.

  4. Explore some of the needs of the LGBT community in regard to social climate and impact on mental health issues, as well as culturally sensitive community responses to these needs.

  5. Discuss some of the needs of the Latino/Latina community in regard to social climate and impact on mental health issues, as well as culturally sensitive community responses to these needs.
