Focusing and Mindfulness: Awareness Practices for Psychotherapy - 2014

Nov 08, 2014 9:00 am -
Nov 08, 2014 04:30pm

Event Description

Joan Klagsbrun, PhD and Ronald Siegel, PsyD, instructors

This workshop presents the theory and practice of Focusing and Mindfulness, and demonstrates the application of these methods in psychotherapy and in the self-care of therapists. Focusing is an evidenced method that attends to inner experience such that meanings can be discovered and carried forward. Mindfulness, an empirically validated psychotherapy treatment, has proven to be a powerful technique to augment virtually any form of counseling.  The workshop is as relevant for persons who are not yet familiar with either one of these therapeutic practices   as it is for persons already quite familiar with Focusing and /or Mindfulness.

Upon completion of the program the student will be able to:

  • Describe the theory underpinning the practices of Focusing and Mindfulness.

  • Discuss skills necessary to practice and guide others through these processes.

  • Demonstrate how Focusing and Mindfulness can be integrated into psychotherapy.

  • Practice skills for therapist self-care.
