Keynote Presentation: “An Evidence-Based View of Current Appliance Therapy”

Lecture Synopsis:
Significant changes in the technology of orthodontics since the turn of the century, especially in bracket designs, 3D imaging and use of bone screws and mini-plates for skeletal anchorage, have led aggressive marketing claims and controversy about their clinical application. This presentation reviews these changes with an emphasis on data for clinical outcomes.

The objective is help orthodontists sort out what we really know from scientific evaluations of the new technologies from what might be claimed as their advantages.
