Medical Director of Psychiatry

UMass Memorial Healthcare, the academic teaching hospital and clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is seeking a full-time board certified Psychiatry Medical Director. The ideal candidate will serve as the clinical leader of a 14-bed adult psychiatric unit. The Medical Director will provide clinical oversight and leadership to a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, APRN’s, psychologists, nurses, social workers and other dedicated health care providers. The dedicated team is committed to providing comprehensive high-quality care, as well as direct care to patients with complex psychiatric, behavioral and medical needs. The qualified individual will report directly to the Chief of Psychiatry. 

The Department of Psychiatry at UMMHC has a faculty of more than 300 physicians/psychologists engaged in a variety of clinical and academic pursuits. UMMHC is the largest and highly regarded provider of psychiatric services in central Massachusetts. As the clinical partner of UMass Medical School, you will have access to the latest technology, research and clinical trials. Our physicians provide primary care and specialty services for both routine and complex health needs, and they practice at locations in Worcester and throughout Central Massachusetts.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Tele-Psychiatry, F54320

Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Psychiatry is recruiting a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with academic career interests to lead the growth of tele-psychiatry and provide access to care to underserved areas of the Commonwealth. This clinical work will also involve supervise/teach residents/medical students as well as mentoring faculty who have an interest in tele-psychiatry. This may also include working with Advanced Practice Nurses. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with specialties in the Children's Hospital of Richmond pediatric specialties and the Virginia Treatment Center for Children's inpatient and outpatient services.

The position will focus on psychiatric assessment and treatment, as well as consultation and liaison services and some rotational coverage for inpatient psychiatric services. VTCC works collaboratively within the VCU Health System and Children's Hospital of Richmond Pediatric Department, community-based child serving organizations, state agencies, and others to deliver exemplary psychiatric services. A new, state of the art facility will be opening in 2017, with expanded capacity for inpatient and outpatient, research and teaching facilities. As a VCU Department of Psychiatry Faculty member, the position will have the opportunity to teach and work with medical students, residents and fellows. The position reports to the Division Chair. Rotational evening/weekend coverage with VCU Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for inpatient services is shared within the Medical Team.

All successful candidates will be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and have demonstrated clinical experience with pediatric patients and their families, and fostering an interdisciplinary team approach. Experience with Tele-psychiatry is required and experience in academic setting is preferred. Must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Anchored by a 635-bed Level I trauma center, Cooper University Health Care (CUHC) is a comprehensive integrated delivery system comprised in part by: MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Cooper Heart Institute, Cooper Bone & Joint Institute, Cooper Urban Health Institute, Coriell Institute for Medical Research and Cooper Neurosciences Institute and Critical Care. In 2008, CUHC opened a $220M, 320,000 square foot expansion encompassing a new patient care pavilion attached to the existing facility. This project is part of an effort to create a regional health science campus in Camden, NJ, which will also include a new $130 million academic and research building, a stem cell institute, cancer institute, clinical research building and a clinical office building.

Initiated in 2012, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University occupies a 200,000 square foot, $139M building on the Cooper campus. The school offers training programs across a variety of fields for medical students, residents, fellows, nurses and allied health professionals.

CUHC seeks an accomplished physician leader who can build a comprehensive psychiatry service line and psychiatry residency in collaboration with Rowan University, and increase research and scholarly activity.  The Chair will report to the dean of the medical school for academic matters, to the senior executive vice president/chief physician executive for matters relating to CUCHC, and will receive an appointment from Rowan University.


  • Board certified psychiatrist with an MD or DO from an accredited institution; MBA, MHA or MPH would be a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellence in patient care, medical administration, clinical research, teaching and medical education.
  • Comfortable in the clinical setting, as well as in the contemporary health policy arena.
  • Experience as a physician leader of inpatient/outpatient and community-based psychiatric health in a health system or complex medical setting.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; strong understanding of organizational dynamics and the skills to drive change in a complex environment with clarity and transparency.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of addiction medicine.

Located in Camden, CUHC is proximal to the beautiful suburban towns of Haddonfield and Moorestown, and just across the river from Philadelphia. “In the past two years, major institutions like the Campbell Soup Company, Rutgers University and Cooper University Hospital have invested nearly $1 billion toward large-scale projects in Camden, which could create upwards of 1,000 new, permanent full- or part-time jobs in the city,” according to Next American City.
