The Master Series affords the chance to spend a complete day with leaders in our field to consider the unique perspective each speaker brings to the challenging dilemmas in both theory and practice. This program is designed for practitioners working with patients who have been exposed to life-threatening or traumatic events and who develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is one of the most prevalent of all psychological disorders and is being more readily recognized in clinical practices worldwide. Participants will learn contemporary methods for assessing patients with PTSD and will also learn current models of psychotherapy for this debilitating condition. Didactics will comprise a portion of the workshop, yet case presentations will form a vital part of the presentation and considerable time will be devoted to methods and models for treating PTSD. Audience involvement and participation will be encouraged to draw upon the experiences of the more senior clinicians present. This presentation will focus on the presentation of evidence based approaches to assessment and treatment of PTSD.
Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:
· To learn the prevalence of exposure to traumatic events and the eventual development of PTSD.
· To understand the various conceptual models currently employed to understand the development of PTSD and to guide treatment.
· To learn about recent updates to the DSM criteria and methods to assess PTSD.
· To understand the psychological treatment methods known to promote improvement for individuals with PTSD.
· To equip oneself with treatment strategies and techniques to employ with PTSD patients.

Terence M. Keane, Ph.D., is Director of the National Center for PTSD-Behavioral Sciences Division and Associate Chief of Staff for Research at VA Boston Healthcare System. He is Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Dean for Research at Boston University School of Medicine. The Current President of the Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA), Dr. Keane has published thirteen edited volumes and over 275 articles and chapters on the assessment and treatment of PTSD. He has served as President of the Division of Trauma Psychology in APA, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and the Association of VA Psychology Leaders. He’s the recipient of many career contribution awards for his work on trauma, including honorary doctorates from Binghamton University-SUNY and Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.
