Assessing cognition and personality allows a multidimensional picture that is useful clinically. This program will focus on reciprocal influences of cognition and personality in the development and clinical expression of personality disorders, e.g., executive dysfunction in Cluster B personality disorders. Invited speakers will present evidence from research, provide illustration by way of a case presentation, and discuss implications and future directions in a panel discussion. The program is limited in its scope in an attempt to maximize clarity.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss the clinical symptoms of borderline and other personality disorders
- Explain ways in which cognition and brain function provide core features of personality disorders
- Describe ways in which demographic factors such as age, gender, mental health, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity affect the expression of personality disorders
