Understanding and Treating Diabetes in the Transplant Patient

Speakers:   

Ann Rice Hackett, APRN-BC, ANP, WHNP

​During this lecture we'll discuss how to screen and diagnose at-risk patients in the transplant setting. We will then discuss insulin management for patients while inpatient, including weight-based insulin dosing, transitioning off insulin drips, and adjusting an insulin regimen. Finally we will conclude by discussing the outpatient management of diabetes including patient education tips and tricks, the use of oral diabetic agents, non-insulin injectables, and insulin while at home.


Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to appropriately screen and identify those with diabetes and those at risk for developing diabetes in the transplant setting
  • Learn to appropriately manage diabetes in the inpatient setting including weight-based insulin dosing, transitioning off an insulin drip, and adjusting an insulin regimen
  • Learn to appropriately manage diabetes in the home or outpatient setting including patient education, the use of oral agents, non-insulin injectables, and insulin
