Event Description

Cataloging Music Scores Webinar
Wednesday, February 19, 2020
10:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

In this 2 hour session, we’ll cover the basics of cataloging scores for music collections. This class includes how to identify these resources, what information to record for these types of resources, and insights into classification.  This class focuses on practical tips and analysis of MARC records. Through exploration of examples, attendees will gain practical exposure to the fundamentals of RDA cataloging and insights into LCSH subject analysis for these type of resources. Upon completion of the class and exercises, attendees should be able to identify elements for recording in a record for scores and apply those to a MARC formatted record. No score cataloging experience is necessary but familiarity with MARC may be useful.

Resources: Curated scores cataloging resources, presentation materials, and exercises will be available after class.

Audience: All library staff who work with or are interested in scores cataloging in their ILS/OCLC, as well as those who are interested in the role of metadata in systems
