Event Description

Planning Programs and Services for Toddlers and Preschoolers
7/12/21 - 8/09/21
4-Week Asynchronous ALA Course

How can you offer the best programs, collections, and services possible to the toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2-5 years old) that come into your library? Whether you are new to the profession, planning your first toddler storytime, considering programming beyond storytime, or looking to refresh your collection, this eCourse will help you build the foundation to better serve toddlers and preschoolers.

After laying the groundwork for developmentally appropriate practice, this course offers you strategies and ideas for providing outstanding services to families with young children. In four weeks, you’ll review relevant child development theory and learn how to apply it to your services; design a storytime plan that you can implement immediately; develop a library program for toddlers and/or preschoolers that goes beyond storytime; and learn practical techniques that will help you analyze your current collection.

After participating in this course, you will know the

  • Essentials of development and literacy tools for children ages 2-5
  • Best practices for running programs for 2-5 year-olds
  • Fundamentals of developing a collection for toddlers and preschoolers
