This hands-on workshop will address RDA cataloging of audio resources and 3-Dimensional and Naturally-occurring objects as follows:
Audio Resources
This instruction session provides basic cataloging instruction for the RDA instructions relevant to non-musical audio recordings, including streaming and downloadable audio files. Additional basic treatment of musical audio recordings can be included upon request. All examples are provided using the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (MFBD).
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to apply the RDA instructions specific to audio recordings, including electronic audio forms and Playaways. Additional learning outcomes for musical audio recordings include the application of form of work vocabulary and identification of principal creators for the 1XX field of the MFBD. This workshop includes hands-on practice and application.
3-Dimensional and Naturally Occurring Objects
Termed “artefacts and realia” under AACR2, RDA treats objects such as puppets and dolls, board games, models, and specimens as three-dimensional and naturally occurring objects. The RDA instructions for describing these resources includes identifying attributes such as scale, base and applied materials, mounts, and uses a variety of terms for the extent. All examples are provided using the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (MFBD).
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to apply the RDA instructions specific to objects and distinguish an object with various pieces, such as a board game, from a kit.

Bobby Bothmann is metadata & emerging technologies librarian at Minnesota State University, Mankato where he holds the rank of professor in Library Services. Bobby’s primary duties include cataloging books and electronic resources, managing large files full of MARC records, investigating mobile resources and other new technologies, and attending a lot of meetings. Bobby has been an active member of OLAC (OnLine Audiovisual Catalogers) since fall 2000 and has served in various leadership roles including treasurer and president.
He is a standing member of the editorial board and former Cataloging News editor for Cataloging & Classification Quarterly. He holds an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee UWM and an MS in Geography and English Technical Communication from MSU Mankato. Bobby also moonlights an adjunct instructor for the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he teaches cataloging and classification courses and tries to covert one student per semester to the cataloging side of the Force.
