Oct 13, 2015 10:00am

Event Description

Come learn what happened this year in the states related to financial services issues in privacy and data breach notification policy. Industry experts will provide an overview of enacted state legislation and its impacts on the financial services industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of panelists.

Privacy and Data Breach Notification Panel: Privacy and data security measures were introduced in more than a dozen state legislatures in 2015. Many sought to make modifications to existing data breach notification laws by expanding the definition of personal identifiable information to include new data elements such as health records and biometric data. Many bills also added notification requirements to the state attorney general’s office when a breach resulted in a consumer notification. Additionally, states placed timeframe restrictions on when consumers must be notified by (i.e. 45 days, 90 days) and some now require residents to be provided identity theft prevention services. These changes in consumer data breach notifications have ramifications for the financial services industry as well as other industries that hold consumer data. Learn what this means for your company or clients in lieu of Congressional action on establishing a national data breach notification standard.
