Please join us on Wednesday, November 8th for a discussion on systemic risk. The following topics will be addressed:
Lawrence Goodman, Founder and President, Center for Financial Stability (CFS)
Lawrence Goodman is founder and president of the Center for Financial Stability (CFS). Mr. Goodman was managing director and global head of emerging market strategy at Bank of America, where he led analysis of emerging economies, currencies, and rates in Asia, the Americas, and Europe. Prior to Bank of America, Mr. Goodman was the head of Quantitative Policy Analysis at the U.S. Treasury - advising the Under Secretary on a wide range of issues. He co-founded and chaired an inter-agency group, comprised of 13 agencies to advise principals and deputies throughout the U.S. government on financial, economic, and political risks. Previously, he was the chief global economist and managing director at Santander Investment, where he served on the executive committee for the Global
Equity Group.

Mr. Goodman holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.B.A. in quantitative finance from University of California at Berkeley, and has engaged in Ph.D. studies in economics at The New School.  He served on the board of the Emerging Market Traders Association (EMTA). He is currently a member of the Bretton Woods Committee and The Economic Club of New York. Mr. Goodman serves on the executive committee of the Society for Economic Measurement (SEM) and is a contributor to *Forbes*. He is also a member of the Financial Research Advisory Committee at the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Financial Research.
H. S. Bob Kostakopoulos, Professor, Columbia University
Bob Kostakopoulos is a 30+ years career banker with first-hand experience in dealing with regulators over various regulatory regimes, including the current regulatory framework as defined by Basel III and Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that arose as a response to the 2007-2009 financial crisis. His experience and expertise span the areas of systemic risk, strategic risk management, financial risk management, operational risk, and enterprise risk management.
Kostakopoulos has served as president, CEO, and director of three community banks, as well as head of quantitative research at Merrill Lynch Economics, the research arm of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets Group. His current research relates to measuring the impact of financial interconnectedness on Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review, Dodd-Frank Act Stress Test, Liquidity Coverage Ratios, Net Stable Funding Ratios, and leverage ratios.
Kostakopoulos teaches MBA courses in International Risk Analysis, which focuses on global systemic risk and the role of IMF and Bank of International Settlements (BIS); Managerial Economics, with emphasis on industry structure; Financial Strategy and Business Decisions, which incorporates strategic risk management, financial risk analysis, hedging, and Value at Risk; Macroeconomics in a Global Economy, which focuses on systemic risk emanating from the institutional set up of the European Union; International Economics - Theory & Policy; Risk Management; Corporate Finance; and International Corporate Finance.
Kostakopoulos has a Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.A. in Economics from Columbia University, and a BBA from Pace University. He is fluent in Greek.
Michael Leibrock, Managing Director, Head of Counterparty Credit Risk and Chief Systemic Risk Officer, The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC)
Michael Leibrock joined DTCC in 2010 and currently serves as Managing Director, Head of Counterparty Credit Risk and Chief Systemic Risk Officer and for The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation ("DTCC"). 
In his current position, Leibrock is responsible for the identification and monitoring of potential systemic threats to DTCC and the securities industry, actively engaging with DTCC clients and regulators on systemic risk topics and producing periodic industry white papers and other thought leadership products. He is also responsible for all counterparty credit risk originating from DTCC's SIFMU entities. He also serves as chair of DTCC's Model Risk Governance Committee, co-chair of the Systemic Risk Council and is a member of the Management Risk Committee. 
Leibrock holds a Doctorate degree in Finance and International Economics from Pace University's Lubin School of Business, as well as an M.B.A. in Finance from Fordham University.  He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at New Jersey City University and is an active speaker on risk topics domestically and globally.  He is the co-author of a 2017 book titled "Understanding Systemic Risk in Global Financial Markets" (Wiley Finance). 
Brian S. Strauss, Director, Banking & Capital Markets Practice, PricewaterhouseCoopers and RMA NY Chapter President
Brian S. Strauss is a Director in PwC's Banking & Capital Markets practice, where he provides risk and regulatory advisory services to financial services institutions. Mr. Strauss serves as President of the Risk Management Association - New York Chapter (RMA NY), prior to which he served as Chairman for four years. He is a former Chairman of Capital Markets Credit Analysts Society (CMCAS). 
Prior to joining PwC, Mr. Strauss served as Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of KCG Americas LLC, as well as Deputy CRO of KCG Holdings, Inc. Mr. Strauss previously served as CRO of Knight Capital Group, a predecessor firm, where he had global responsibility for credit, market and operational risk management. Before being promoted to this newly-created role in September, 2012, Mr. Strauss had served as Chief Credit Officer of the firm. Prior to joining Knight, Mr. Strauss was a Managing Director and Senior Credit Officer at UBS Americas Inc., where he served as Co-Head of Hedge Fund Credit in the Americas. While at UBS, Mr. Strauss was the primary risk liaison to the domestic and international equities businesses and the exchange-traded derivatives businesses globally. 
Previously, Mr. Strauss was employed by Bank One N.A. as a Managing Director and Capital Markets Credit Officer, where his responsibilities included managing the bank's exposure to hedge funds, securities firms and money managers, and overseeing the ISDA documentation group. Mr. Strauss has held senior capital markets, financial institution and hedge fund credit roles at Merrill Lynch & Company, Lehman Brothers and Bankers Trust Company. He began his banking career with Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York, where he completed the bank's credit training program and worked as a lending officer to securities firms. 
Mr. Strauss received a B.Sc. in finance from Georgetown University and an M.B.A. in finance from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
