SIPP 2014 Panel: Design, Content, Access, and Effective Use
(Event: PAA 2020 Annual Meeting)

Apr 22, 2020 8:00am - Apr 22, 2020 12:00pm
Session Type: Workshop

Description

The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) is the Census Bureau’s premier source of information on income and program participation in the United States.  SIPP’s unique design, diversity of topics, and depth and breadth of questions make it an ideal tool for researchers interested in evaluating dynamics of income, movements into and out of government transfer programs, the family and social context of individuals and households, and interactions among these items.  This workshop focuses on the 2014 SIPP Panel and its applications for researchers and demographers of all experience levels: those who have never used SIPP, experienced SIPP data users, and those who simply want to learn more about SIPP.  The objective of the workshop is to provide data users with an introduction and overview of the design and data available in the 2014 SIPP Panel, as well as demonstrations on ways to access and use SIPP data.

This workshop will:

  • Provide an introduction, background, and context of SIPP;
  • Review SIPP’s content, file structure, and data availability;
  • Demonstrate some of the possible ways to access and use SIPP data; and
  • Provide an opportunity to increase stakeholder involvement and interaction with the SIPP Coordination and Outreach Staff (SCOS) from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Presenters

  • Holly Fee, Survey Statistician, U.S. Census Bureau
  • Shelley Irving, Survey Statistician, U.S. Census Bureau
