I. Relationally Based Music Psychotherapy

Description

Explore the integration of Relational Integrative Psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems theory within the practice of music psychotherapy in a private practice setting. Outline the Continuum Model of Guided Music & Imagery and discuss music and imagery demonstrated as an approach that can be effectively used on virtual platforms. Learn about issues related to ethics and self-care for practioners.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will identify the 3 different levels of music therapy practice and will describe 3 ethically sound practices based on the AMTA Professional and Advanced Competencies. (BCD – I. 1. 2. 3. & 10., III. A. 1. a. c. e. f., V. A. 2. 5. 11. 12.)
  2. Participants will demonstrate basic principles of Relational Integrative Psychotherapy such as: the “Self-inRelationship” model, Inquiry and Attunement, the Eight Relational Needs, and how they relate to music therapy practice.   (BCD – III. 3. e. g. & 4. f.  g.)
  3. Participants will discuss how to combine basic principles of Relational Integrative Psychotherapy with music therapy techniques. (BCD – II. 13. a. b., III. A. 2. c. e. g. k. p. r. vv. ggg., III. e. g., III. A. 4. j., III. A. 5. c. g. r. s. dd. ff. hh.) 
  4. Participants will identify the basic 4 principles of Internal Family Systems theory and how they relate to music therapy practice. (BCD – II. 13. a. b., III. A. 2. c. e. g. k. p. r. vv. ggg., III. e. g., III. A. 4. j., III. A. 5. c. g. r. s. dd. ff. hh.) 
  5. Participants will demonstrate the combination of basic principles of Relational Integrative Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems theory, and music therapy techniques for enhanced self-care as clinicians. (BCD – A. 1. a. c. e. f., III. A. 2. a. b., V. B. 2. 5. )

  • Contemporary Models of Psychotherapy  and Music Therapy Approaches – 55 min: Principles of Relational Integrative Psychotherapy, The “Self-in-Relationship” model, Inquiry and Attunement, The Eight Relational Needs, Principles of Internal Family Systems, Continuum model of Music and Imagery
  • Break – 10 min
  • Relational Integrative Psychotherapy and Music Therapy – 55 min: Defining, understanding and implementing deep listening through music and words, Case Study Presentations
  • Break – 10 min
  • Music and Imagery Experiential Activity – 40 min

  • Self Care Music and Imagery Experiential Activity – 40 minutes
