The US Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is the world’s longest-running active household panel study. This workshop describes the design, content, and applications of the main PSID interview and its two youth-centered supplements: the PSID Child Development Supplement and the PSID Transition into Adulthood Supplement. It also provides an interactive tutorial on data access, key data files, and user education resources with a focus on tools and techniques to link information about family members. The content and pace of the workshop are appropriate for new and prospective PSID users who have some secondary data analysis experience.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the genealogical, longitudinal design that governs PSID’s sample following rules
- Understand the file structure of publicly available data
- Be able to use data resources that identify and describe family relationships
- Know where to find learning resources to become more familiar with PSID
