“Human Resources: The Right And Wrong Way To Hire And Fire”  (1.5 CEUs)

Presented By: Menai Edwards

Firing someone is never pleasant. But when you have a poor performer on your hands, you can't afford to waste your time or money by keeping them around. There are certainly right and wrong ways to go about letting someone go. Get it wrong, and you could cause unnecessary heartache for the both of you — or worse, end up in court. This session will address the right and wrong way to terminate employees and it will also cover how to properly hire new staff from the initial interview through the first weeks of employment.

“How It All Works: Understanding Association Bylaws”  (1 CEU) (within the Opening Session)

Presented By: NFDMA, Inc. Bylaws Committee

This is a membership association of professional funeral directors, morticians and/or embalmers whose members are members of Associations chartered through the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Incorporated, excluding any exceptions as provided for in these By-laws. Bylaws are the written rules that control the internal affairs of an organization. Bylaws generally define things like the group's official name, purpose, requirements for membership, officers' titles and responsibilities, how offices are to be assigned, how meetings should be conducted, and how often meetings will be held. Bylaws also govern the way the group must function as well as the roles and responsibilities of its officers. They are essential in helping an organization map out its purpose and the practical day-to-day details of how it will go about its business. This session will discuss the purpose of the NFDMA, Inc. Bylaws and the proposed bylaws amendments for the association.
